this is another view from our hike. we walked through vineyards, orchards and beautiful flowers and shrubs.

there were so many steps! we were told the hike involved uphilll steps only at the beginning, and the rest was downhill from there. not the case, these went on forever! it was nice to get a little work out in, with all the bread and gelato we had been inhaling :)

this was the reward. I remember looking at this photo online so many times, and wanting and wishing to experience it myself. so when this happened, I took so many photos. throughout the hike, we would get little glimpse of vernazza, and think, "ah this is the best photo ever" and then as we went on, the view and pictures kept getting better and better. vernazza was such a great experience. it was so tiny, quant and alive. we loved it.

this was so yummy! it doesn't look like much, but it tasted amazing. it could have been that we had just finished one of the most intense hikes of our lives and we were starving -- but it also hit the spot. that tiny little tomato you see there...perfection.

we took the boat ride back to monterosso. we decided against the hike on the way back lol.

our swim day at monterosso. this involved laying on the rocks, jumping in, eating cheese/olives/bread/meats/gelato and drinking some tasty drinks.

the fast food experience in italy. and it was so good! this was only 4-6 euro, which was super inexpensive. Jordan and I got these little snacks a lot throughout the trip.

this meal was by far, my favorite. and of course, there is more white wine. we loved drinking it over there! now being back home, we have wanted to by more -- we mostly have reds on our wine rack, but whites might be overpowering it soon. I thought when we were over there we would drink mostly red wine, but they informed us that white is the way to go in the summer time! it was chilled and crisp, perfect for those warm evening nights.

the leather markets. this was right outside where we were staying in our airbnb. in about thirty seconds, you were here. to the left was the mercado centrale where they had tons of fresh food on the bottom level and the top was filled with tons of different restaurants. there we had pizza, steak, hand-made dumplings, and dessert throughout our stay.

this was the view from our window at the first vineyard we visited on our wine tour. the knowledge and the tastebuds were on a different level there! we visited through chianti. the little trees in front our olive trees.

this is one of my favorite photos from the trip. Jordan is so so happy and giddy in this photo and I just love it, and him! really this trip happened because of him loving me. a year ago in september, I told him I have always wanted to go to italy, and go on one more big trip before we have some special babes. we were having brunch downtown portland, and planned it. we went after it together to save and I am so grateful we did it. happy wife happy life right? Jordan wanted to go to and I think enjoyed it just about as much as I did.

this was one of the sweet little villages we visited on the tour called greve. we went to two vineyards and two towns. I loved visiting these little places, they were less crowded and full of culture and coziness. they were setting up for a wine festival that we just missed.

florence!

one of the few places we found that actually served breakfast like we are use to. we usually have a high protein breakfast in the mornings, which typically involves eggs. the norm for breakfast in italy at the restaurants that we found was a cappuccino and a croissant, sometimes with some ham and cheese on the side. so when we got this, our little tummy's were happy.

a yummy, tasty brunch. this place had my favorite espresso drink of the trip. this was at ditta artigianale. I got an espresso macchiato (with milk) and the classic croque monsieur. my drink was served  with an espresso shot and a small glass cup filled with the most perfectly steamed milk. poured the espresso on top, and it happened. my favorite espresso drink that I enjoyed to the fullest.

that behind us is a chocolate wall. and it is real chocolate, Jordan had to ask to see if it was real chocolate. we went here at least three times while at florence. we got gelato, drinking chocolate, chocolate bars and individual truffles/chocolates for us and our families.

okay. so this was our last day in florence and we didn't want to miss out on all the pastries we hadn't tried yet. so we decided to get five of them! they were pretty tasty, and Jordan got the first "american coffee" there. it was served black and wasn't bad, he thoroughly enjoyed it.

this pizza was the very best. they made the pizza dough fresh, put on tomato sauce, threw in the fire oven, pulled it out and topped it with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and olive oil with some oregano to top it off. we want to make this one at home real soon.        and that marks our trip! september of 2017, you will not be forgotten. yay for many more adventures and travels to come!
